The Bridge (Year 7)

Welcome To The Bridge!

The Bridge is an outstanding provision for students in Year 7 where they are able to experience a personalised curriculum which caters to their individual needs, whether they need extra targeted support or greater stretch and challenge. It offers unrivalled pastoral care and a carefully crafted transition programme which guarantees all students making the transition from primary to secondary, a happy and successful start at President Kennedy School.

The Bridge Leadership Team consists of highly experienced practitioners including staff with specialist primary expertise who understand the needs of our youngest students in order to support their learning.  Most Year 7 lessons are taught within The Bridge classrooms. This means that our specialist teachers come into The Bridge to teach Year 7 lessons; this is a key principle to support our new students into secondary school. The Bridge is a self-contained college dedicated to Year 7 students based in its own area of the school, with its own, computer rooms, playground area and canteen facilities.

The Bridge offers outstanding learning and enrichment opportunities and has an outstanding ethos and expectations as we show PRIDE in everything that we do. The Year 7 experience offers a strong foundation for Year 7 students to become independent and thrive, preparing them for their next destination in Year 8, The Gateway.

To quote a current Year 12 student: "Being in The Bridge is like being a member of a family".

Specialist Bridge Curriculum

All Year 7 students will take part in a carefully crafted curriculum that encompasses, traditional academic subjects such as English and Maths taught by our specialist teachers plus, a range of cross curricular learning experiences.

The key to success is careful assessment when the children arrive at President Kennedy School which enables us identify strengths and weaknesses early. We then devise highly personalised timetables for each student based on their particular needs to make sure that every child is stretched to reach their full potential.

Children are placed in sets according to their ability in English and Maths quickly. Children who arrive below national average in key subjects such as English and Maths are often offered additional lessons in small groups which gives them just the boost they need.
