Unfortunately, due to Government guidance on large gatherings, we are unable to host our usual Open Evening event at school and meet you all personally. Here at President Kennedy School we understand this is such an important decision for you as parents and that is why we have invested so heavily in ‘The Bridge’, our dedicated Year 7 school. The Bridge has been welcoming students for the last 10 years and during this time it has been widely praised by parents, the educational press, OFSTED and education specialists for setting the national standard for transition between primary school and secondary school.
We regularly host visitors from schools all over the country. The Bridge’s team of specialist staff have developed a reputation for providing the very best educational environment for each and every one of our students. Our Year 11 students have been celebrating their GCSE results this morning.
I'm delighted to report that all students have secured the necessary grades to progress to the next stage of their educational journey.
Many will remain with us here at President Kennedy School while others explore pastures new at their chosen colleges. Our congratulations to all of our students on their achievements in what has been the most challenging of circumstances.
Among the Year 11 achievements include:
Ismail Rafique who achieved 9 grade 9s, Matthew Taylor who achieved 9 grade 9s and a grade 8 and Grace Moongo who achieved 7 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and a grade 7.

Students at President Kennedy School are celebrating their A Level results today.
Under the most challenging of circumstances for students, we are delighted that our students leave having secured their university places or high quality training as apprenticeships programmes.
Among our successful students are Molly Wilson (4 A*s) who will take up her place at Clare College Cambridge to study Medicine. Amelia Bassnett (4 A*s), Tanis Hussain (AABB) and Amber Nazir (3 A*s) will also study Medicine at Russell Group universities.
Lima Noori (3 A*s), Ali Kazmi (3 A*s) and Shabeeh Shah (3 A*s) have secured places to study dentistry at Russell Group universities.
Imbrahim Shazad (ABB) will study History at Warwick University and Robert Effah (AAA) and Mitchell King (ABB) will study Aerospace engineering at Nottingham University and Surrey University respectively.
Hasti Futehi (2 Distinctions and a Merit) will study Law at Exeter and Vanessa Ladhar (3 A*s) will study Social Anthropology and Sociology at Manchester.

On 1st July 2021, World Class primary and secondary school leaders, staff and students came together from across the UK and internationally for WCSQM’s Symposium. In light of the ongoing social distancing measures, WCSQM’s annual Symposium had to take place virtually, hosted by Sandringham School in St Albans.
This year’s Symposium offered a range of presentations and interactive sessions from World Class schools, students and partners, centred around the theme of ‘World Class futures’. The day itself showcased students’ achievements across this academic year and acted as a celebration of student excellence. Across the course of the day, the fantastic achievements of PKS students, in particular, featured heavily from Year 7 up to Post 16.
At multiple points throughout the day, Year 7 students featured in the ‘Unlocking Your Voice Gallery’ where their World Class video submissions were shown to 50+ schools internationally. Students explained why they believed they were #WorldClass; their resilience, their determination, their organisation, their dedication, their PRIDE to name only a few. A massive thank you to all of the Year 7 students who were involved in this! We loved hearing your opinions on why you are World Class. A huge congratulations to the following students whose speeches were excellent, clear and will be given prizes internally for their incredible efforts: 1st place winners include Ethan Moongo and Abshara Piratheeban, 2nd place winners include Ozzy Omogun and Cordellia Akata and 3rd place winners were Hannah Richards and Jessica Berry.

During the Awards Ceremony, current Year 12 students Harry Gilsenan, Eesha Gupta and Mya Birdee were commended for their efforts in being student shadow assessors for other accrediting and re-accrediting World Class Schools. This brought with it the opportunity to develop World Class skills and competencies, and to network with other World Class students, with the final result being qualified assessor status from September 2021. The assessor’s principal role is to assess the school and the students that are applying for World Class status.
The whole process lasted a few months and once the accrediting schools had submitted all of their work and evidence, it was the shadow assessor’s responsibility to collect and review months of evidence completed by those wishing to be World Class. When the assessment of schools comes around next year, Harry, Esha and Mya will be in charge of a team of 7-8 shadow assessors. Congratulations on becoming certified assessors for the WCSQM organisation.
World Class students make World Class schools!
From 2pm until 3pm, Year 9 student Gracie Rolinson, who achieved third place herself in last year’s essay writing competition, launched the 2021 WCSQM essay competition.
Gracie had the opportunity to work with this year’s competition judge, Dan Freedman, author of the hugely popular Jamie Johnson football novels, adapted for TV by the BBC, which is now the most downloaded children’s show on the BBC iPlayer. Dan’s passion for writing was preceded by a love of football – he was the Managing Editor for the English Football Association, interviewing the likes of Messi and Ronaldo on his World Cup tours. Dan revealed the secrets of his success to Gracie and Prisha, a Year 6 student from Berkeley Academy, who interviewed him on everything from football to making writing cool. As well as this, he also revealed this year’s essay competition title: “How much can motivation from parents, or the important adults in your life, help or hinder your success?” After winning the competition last year, with Caitlin Hoyle’s essay awarded first place, PKS will be leading on the shortlisting process for 2021.

President Kennedy Kids Can and Do!

Did you know that Coventry has 26 Twin Cities across the world? And that one of them is Kingston, Jamaica?
Here at President Kennedy School, we are committed to developing our international links and have recently been fortunate to partner with Kingston Technical High School, supported by Coventry, City of Languages and The British Council. We have already established a link between the two schools by creating an introductory film. The film was planned, recorded and directed by some of our Year 9 and Year 12 students, with technical support from media company Twin Studios CIC, and has been shared with students at our partner school. The initial aim of the twinning project is to explore the shared cultural heritage of Coventry and Jamaica, with a focus on Windrush and the legacy that followed.
Next year we have three exciting collaborative projects planned. Firstly, we will be getting students to further explore our shared heritage through music, art and drama, leading to an online gallery where both schools can showcase their talent. We will also be taking part in a virtual language exchange, setting up a penpal system and, finally, working on a project for environmental sustainability. This promises to be an extremely exciting opportunity for the students at our school and I can't wait to update you on some of the wonderful things we have achieved, later in the year.

On Wednesday 23rd May, President Kennedy School took 26 athletes from Year 7 and Year 8 to the Coventry Schools Finals at Warwick University. The pupils had to qualify for these finals, and everyone produced fantastic performances to come away with a lots of medals and a number of City champions.
In the team events, the Year 8 boys team finished 3rd overall behind Bishop Ullathorne and Bablake, but our Year 7 girls team created some President Kennedy history, by becoming Coventry Champions for the very first time.

To celebrate 'Chabeel Day', President Kennedy Year 8 and Year 9 students helped distribute cold drinks to students as they left school for the day.
The drinks were kindly donated by the charity Langar Aid in celebration and to commemorate the sacrifice of the 5th Sikh Guru Guru Arjun Dev Ji.
Chabeel Day is celebrated all around the world by Sikhs. This to remind us that we must alway rise above adversity and challenging times (Chardi Kala) and to turn a negitive into a positive.
The students who happily distributed the drinks were Yasmin Retmanski, Amelia Fisk, Cabe Jackson, Tomass Szafranek, Hubert Leszkiewicz, Macy Bradley, David Samura, Rahim Kengema, Anum Shazad, Jasmitha Santhamanoham, Safa Hojeiji and Tanishka Siva.

Year 8 RE students have had an amazing experience with Echo Eternal survivor Peter Lantos.
He was very impressed with them as a group. They asked thoughtful and philosophical questions that elicited replies from him even his long-term handler hadn't heard before.
As part of the project, the students wrote poetry to amplify the holocaust survivor stories. Two students, Aryia and Hannah wanted to share the poetry they wrote with Peter; he now has his own copies for him to keep.
Their work will be shared online via the Echo Eternal and CORE Twitter accounts.
