  • Year 10 Show Off Enterprise Skills at Hogarths Hotel

    Published 25/11/19

This week, Year 10 BTEC students visited Hogarths, a beautifully restored hotel in Dorridge.

Lewis Rollason-O'Connor, Agyapal Jutla, Rais Khan, Ria Kumari, Adam Hussain, Harji Kalsi, Nourayam Boulhaia, Manroop Sandhu, Caitlin Worrall, Noah Eardley and Thierry Fadiya were tasked with researching different holiday destinations and to design a new holiday package. They chose a targeted market and planned activities for the potential visitors to take part in.

The event ended with a “show and tell “presentation to Hogarth employees. The themes students had to choose from were a 'Couple’s Quality Time' weekend, a 'Family Festive Fun' package  and 'Big Birthday' celebrations.

After a very difficult decision, it was decided that the best presentation was Thierry's and Lewis' romantic themed package as they produced good graphics, made excellent use of all the facilities the hotel had to offer and used enterprise skills throughout the whole day.

Robert Elliot, Director of Sales at Hogarth said that he would like to "...complement the students on their listening skills whilst on the tour of the hotel and for using the information in their presentations".

Manroop and Nourayam added, “We have learnt that it is important to listen carefully if you are creating a bespoke package for customers who wish to use the hotel facilities at Hogarths. Thank you Hogarths and the Skills Builder Partnership for organising this visit as it will help us with our BTEC Business coursework".

  • Future Focus Challenge

    Published 04/11/19

Year 12 students had the opportunity to work with 'Enabling Enterprise' to reflect on how they are going to achieve their dream chosen career.

Over the course of the day, students applied essential skills to answer the question: What career is right for me?

They explored different career sectors by trying out industry specific challenges. Students took part in three activities:

Applying Teamwork in Business and Administration by generating ideas to spend and save money in a business; Applying Creativity in Artistic and Creative Skills by designing a new marketing campaign; and Applying Staying Positive in Health and Wellbeing by writing a return to work plan.

As they progressed through the challenges, students reflected on what they have learnt about each career sector and whether they were interested in these types of jobs.

    Amadeus Parekh Pross said:

Thinking about these skills in the context of future careers has been a challenge. I don't yet know what I want to do after studying - but I really recognise skills like team work and staying positive are going to be very important for me

    Tarun Poonia added:

The Future Focus Challenge has made clear to our students, that no matter what field of study or career path they take, the essential skills are going to be increasingly important to support them in their learning and in securing jobs and career success".

  • Year 13 Students Give Presentation to the Rotary Club

    Published 28/10/19

Year 13 students, Reyna Sandhar, Molly Stanley and ourselves visited the Rotary Club this week.

Reyna and Molly gave a presentation showing the work we carried out whilst we were in Peru. They were fascinated to hear about all the things students had achieved and the experiences gained whilst helping the community in Moray. They were then able to conduct a question and answer session where the Rotary members asked many questions about their trip and the qualities they gained from their specific experiences.

We would like to give thanks to the Rotary Club for its continual support in school via projects such as The Interact Club where the Year 7 Bridge Council focus on "Service Beyond Self."

This encourages students to focus on fundraising on a local and international level as well as raising the profile of projects such as 'The Purple Community Fund'.
This is where ring pulls are collected and sent to third world countries to help local people make and sell bags and purses from the ring pulls.

They have also been instrumental in supporting the Peru trip itself.                Ray Thompson and Judy Ryan actively support President Kennedy School and our students.
We hope to have many more years of working together to better the lives of our students as well as the local and wider community.

     Miss Yafai and Mrs Arnett

  • Year 9 Rugby Team Show Pride and Determination

    Published 08/10/19

On Wednesday 2nd October, the Year 9 rugby team travelled to play Princethorpe College.

President Kennedy School started strongly with a 50m effort from a loose ball by Raman Chopra, successfully converted by Declan Wilson. This was followed by a trademark long distance try by  Rusciano Thomas-Riley - aka ‘The Kennedy Comet’  again, converted by Wilson, 14 - 0 after 15 minutes.

We switched off a little and became complacent for the 20/25 minutes either side of half time with some poor handling. Tackling and a lack of concentration allowed Princethorpe to gain a 19-14 lead.
However, President Kennedy School dug deep and scored a short range effort to bring the scores to 19-19.
In the last minute, Rusciano did what only he can - turned on the after burners and from distance went in under the posts - converted by inspirational skipper Sam Soinne.

A fantastic victory embodying all that we want President Kennedy students to aspire to - resilience, determination, pride and beating private schools at ‘their’ game on their patch!
Well done lads - local derby v Coundon Court is up next.
